A Message to You from Rabbi Kahn

I was taught the fundamental value of Jewish life from my grandfather, Anton Marguleas (z”l). He would say “Jews don’t dwell in history; we build on it.”

It is in the spirit of my grandfather’s teaching that I am not content to consider the past three decades of my service to the Jewish community. My personal nostalgia is meaningless to future generations. My singular aspiration is to, “build on history,” and look forward toward creating a spiritually uplifting, aspirational and secure congregation for the next generations.

What we do today at Congregation Beth Israel will shape the future. Our search for meaning in living a Jewish life can only be achieved through what we create together for our children and grandchildren. Let us utilize our personal and collective Jewish memory to move forward to build upon on the greatest story of civilization – the story of the Jewish People.
