Who We Are
Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) is proud to be the oldest and largest Reform congregation in Arizona. Established in 1920, we began as a small gathering of Jewish families who sought a spiritual home in the desert. More than a century later, CBI has grown into a dynamic hub of Jewish life, serving generations of families and shaping the Jewish landscape of Phoenix and beyond.

Our Story
From humble beginnings, CBI has flourished into a Kehillah Kedosha — a sacred community — that embodies the values of Torah, connection, and responsibility. Our history holds countless stories of prayer, study, celebration, and service, with each generation building on the vision of those who came before.

Today at CBI
We are a welcoming, intergenerational community of more than 500 families. Our Chanen Preschool, Hevre religious school, youth groups, adult learning, and cultural programs nurture Jewish identity at every age and stage. Our Shabbat and holiday worship combines timeless tradition with uplifting music and modern meaning.

We are also proud to be home to Camp Daisy and Harry Stein, our Reform Jewish overnight camp in Prescott, which has touched the lives of thousands of campers over the the past five decades. Camp Stein inspires Jewish living through nature, friendships, leadership, and joyful Jewish experiences that strengthen identity and connection long after summer ends.

As a community, we honor every stage of life. The Beth Israel Cemetery has been a sacred resting place for our community since 1928. It serves as a testament to our history and as a place of memory, comfort, and dignity for generations of families.

CBI is a center of action and belonging — where members connect through friendship, community service, and social justice initiatives. Together, we celebrate life’s joys, support one another in times of need, and create lasting bonds of community.

Our Inspiration
At CBI, we are rooted in tradition while building for the future. We believe in Judaism as a living, evolving practice that gives meaning and purpose to our lives. Together, we strive to live our values, strengthen our community, and ensure a thriving Jewish future.
